Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela(time line)


1918- born at Qunu, near Umtata
1944- helped found the ANC Youth League
1950- had to resign from the ANC and work underground
1952- opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa
1962- had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment
1990- led to Mandela’s release
1993- was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
1994-1999  was inaugurated as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa
2013- died 

Achievements :

1-becoming chief of his local tribe
2-opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa
3-was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
4- was inaugurated as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa

Turning Points :

1- had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment
2- massacre of 63 black South African’s changed the whole political climate
3-The majority of Black South Africans had little opportunities either Economic or Political
4-helped to keep other Men’s spirits high and never compromised his political principles when offered earliest release. 
5- Although negotiations were painfully slow and difficult, they eventually led to Mandela’s release in 1990

1970- helped launch a national program to attack eye disease in Aboriginal Australians
1980- was travelling all over the world to help set up eye health programs in developing countries
1989- was aware he was 
1993- died
